Apple and Blackberry Crumble (Crimble Crumble)
For those of you that watched the comedy “Friday night dinner” you will know all about Crimble Crumble. For those that did not its a pretty amazing apple crumble to cook on the bbq
Ingredients for a medium Crumble
- 450g cooking apples we used Bramley apples
- 300g plain flour
- pinch of salt
- 200g unsalted butter cubed to help with the mixing
- 175g brown sugar I use 50/50 dark and light but either would work if you have a preference
- Butter for greasing the dish
- sugar for dressing I used golden castor but again anything would work
- 50g brown sugar to mix with apples
- 1 tbsp flour to mix with apples
- pinch of cinnamon powder to mix with apples
Method
Whilst preparing warm your BBQ indirect to about 180c I can cook this in about an hour but prefer a little longer to properly brown the top and get those toffee flavours going on with the caramelised apple.
Add the flour, sugar and butter into a bowl and mix together by hand until it resembles dry breadcrumbs. This is the time consuming part but well worth it.
peel and chop the apples. I have a chopper that I use for onions etc and chose half inch cubes. Once chopped pop into a buttered oven proof dish mine was a pretty standard 10″ x 6″ size aprox but you could go larger with this recipe and just get a thinner crumble which will cook quicker too. Add the sugar, flour and cinnamon and then add the blackberries, I only had a small Waitrose punnet but they were just perfect.
Spread the crumble mixture over the apples and fork over,
Sprinkle with a little more brown sugar.
Cook until dark and delicious.
Tips.
Ive cooked this so many times and it’s perfect. It does not need much else either hot from the coals or cold next day but we do love it hot with madagascan custard from M&S.
You can omit a little of the sugar going into to the apples if you use a sweeter apple or loose the cinnamon if it’s not your thing.
If you cooked this or any of my recipes then please do let me know how it went, I would love some feedback.
